It struck me as something of a face saving exercise for Iran after their embassy got hit. They only used about a fifth of their drones and ordinance, announced they were going to do it and then it took a day for them to reach their targets. The Iranian dictatorship has to look strong in front of its increasingly dissatisfied populace after all.
Then again, it was probably a good practice run for all their drone pilots working together on a large scale. A few years down the line they may try something on a neighbour who doesn’t have the benefit of an iron dome.
