A blend of fantasy castle and sci-fi base, La Fabrica (just outside of Barcelona) was the dream of architect Ricardo Bofill from the moment he saw an abandoned cement factory.

Now it contains gardens, a church, gallery, conference rooms, working spaces for creatives and more besides. “Life goes on here in a continuous sequence,” Bofill, now in his eighties, says, “with very little difference between work and leisure.”
