Never Noticed This One Wild Bit In Mulholland Drive Before…

CINEMA RULES! I’d seen Mulholland Drive maybe 10-15 times in my life but never in the big screen until the other night. Something I’d never noticed- could never have noticed on a tv screen- was this here shot.

In the scene they’re watching a show about lies, art and fabrication. ‘What you’re seeing is a recording,’ the man says. Then it cuts to the shot below for a long five seconds. It was a near exact mirror of us in the cinema seat, us watching the film, with all the figures in the film the same size as us and looking at us.

It was magical and I’m certain David Lynch did it on purpose, reminding the cinema viewer that they are watching a lie and a fabrication. And you could only experience it on a big screen.
